What People are Saying

“SCS is more than just an education. Although academics are held in high esteem- more importantly is forming the whole student in Christ. SCS helps [during] these formative years by providing Biblical truths woven through all aspects of learning. [It provides] wonderful Chapel experiences with student led worship and great speakers, Bible classes that explore God’s Word in depth and most importantly teachers and staff [who] care for the students as individuals. They really go the extra mile to make a lifetime impact on these kids. Thank you SCS!”

Student Life

Students at Smithtown Christian School begin their day early.  Many are bused to school, and rise early to meet their buses and arrive for the start of homeroom at 8:25 a.m.  The day begins with Bible class.  Academic periods are 39 minutes long for sixth through twelfth grade students and start shortly after 9 am. when Bible class is finished. Elementary classes are self-contained, and travel to other rooms for special subjects and lunch, but fifth grade switches classes for several subjects, and secondary students switch classes for all subjects and so 6th -12th graders are assigned lockers to keep their things in. Wednesday (elementary) and Thursday (secondary) are special however, as the day begins with chapel service.  Teachers from the school, local ministers, and visiting ministers and missionaries have opportunity to share with our student body in these extended sessions.  Worship is led by student or student/teacher worship teams.

spiritual_emphasis_2009SCS students do wear uniforms in school.  Regular dismissal is at 3:20 p.m. when the buses are waiting to pick them up, but those who stay after for extra help in their academic classes, or for sports or some other afterschool activity are able to sign up for late buses that arrive shortly before 5 p.m.  With the rigorous academic program here at SCS, students need to be prepared to work hard during the day, and at home as homework is part of their daily routine, both on the elementary and secondary levels.

Still, SCS student life isn't all work and no fun; with two classes per grade on nearly every level, students have opportunity to meet and make new friends and to form solid and lifelong friendships with other Christian kids.  There are numerous alumni marriages, and many more long-standing friendships that had their beginnings in those students' years at SCS.  Students coming to SCS can be prepared to work hard, to be challenged in their walk with the Lord, and to grow in their relationships with others.
