Smithtown Christian School Long Island

THE ARTS

OUR ART PROGRAM

Smithtown Christian School has a well-rounded program in the Fine Arts, which includes instruction and opportunities in the performing and visual arts.  General music classes for students in kindergarten through fifth grade are part of the regular schedule.  Instrumental lessons are an option for students beginning in fourth grade, with offerings in all string orchestra instruments (violin, viola, cello, and string bass), and band instruments (flute, clarinet, oboe, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, french horn, baritone, tuba, percussion).

For students who participate in the band and string programs, weekly group lessons are offered during school on a rotating lesson schedule basis. Students in grades four through five are also invited to sing in the Elementary Chorus.  Seventh and eighth graders who audition for and are accepted into the Middle School Chorus receive weekly group vocal lessons, as do ninth through twelfth graders who audition for and are accepted into the Promise Singers choir.  Students perform for the annual winter and spring concerts, and for many special events during the school year.

Students in grades K-6 receive instruction in art on a weekly basis, where they create projects and utilize diverse media.  Sixth, seventh and eighth graders receive instruction in art, and high school students are provided with many art elective options.  Students create projects in class and have their work displayed in the hallways, at the annual art shows in the winter and spring, and for other major church and school events.  Students make use of technology as well through use of photo editing software, interactive PowerPoint, and Media Shout, and often have their work displayed in church and school outreach.

WHAT THE PEOPLE SAY…

  • " The service-learning program at SCS goes hand and hand with Christian education. Students learn about loving Jesus and helping those in need. Then, they practice what they learn by going out and being the "hands and feet" of Jesus to their communities. "
    Dr. Anna Ramos, SCS parent

  • " Knowing that our children are going to school and learning about Christ and hearing biblical truth that is not altered has confirmed to us over and over that SCS is the best choice we could make for our kids' education. "
Doug & Kelly Jansson, SCS parents

  • " If you aim for heaven, you might get earth thrown in, besides. Aim for heavenly values by sending your kids to Smithtown Christian School, even if it means sacrifice. "
    Daniel Buttafuoco, SCS Grandparent

  • "SCS has been an incredible blessing to our family. Knowing our children are in a Christ-centered environment where they are loved, nurtured and prayed for by their teachers and other members of their school family is so important to us. "

    Rachel Cardwell, SCS Parent

  • "It's impossible to enter this school without coming into the presence of God. It's the only thing that can change lives and because of the faithful teachers, staff and culture of SCS, it changed mine."
    Pastor Jeffrey Eichenlaub, SCS Alum
