Jeanna S. is a 12th grader who has attended SCS for a total of 3 years. After taking a year away from SCS to try another school, she was so excited to return to her SCS family. Her favorite thing about SCS is the encouraging and uplifting atmosphere that she experiences with her classmates and teachers. Something that she really enjoyed this year so far was seeing her classmates interact during Spiritual Emphasis Week.

Last year, Jeanna participated in a service learning project, Serving our Veterans, that changed the way she views the world and her education. Jeanna, along with her classmates, honored local veterans with a night of recognition and thanks for their service. Our kindergarten class participates in this as well through singing and making gifts. For Jeanna, it was great to hear other’s experiences, especially from her Dad. She was so glad to hear what her Dad had to share about his experiences in the military. As she heard her father tell his story Jeanna was able to document all of his important experiences that she had never heard. Her father's story is now a part of a memoir along with other veterans accounts created by her classmates.

Jeanna came back from this experience realizing that it was a great way to give back to the community through hands on learning. The 11th graders strengthened their communication skills and learned to appreciate veterans in a new way. In her own experience with SCS she believes that it has made her a more generous and caring person. Jeanna said, “The faculty and staff equip you to be a better person to all God’s people and the world at large.” The lessons learned here at SCS have been a foundation for her that she can build upon for the rest of her life.
