Our teachers have embraced distance learning while also maintaining their love for and relationships with students and families. That is a true mark of the SCS family. As we learn and grow in our distance learning program, we invite our families to be in touch with teachers about how their child is doing, what questions they have, and their ideas to make distance learning as smooth and effective as possible. Our hope is to get better and more effective each week.
Teachers check their email several times each school day to answer questions and are available to help individual students as needed. In our distance learning program, lower elementary students’ work is guided by a parent or adult at home. Older students may be more independent in their work, but they still need supervision.
Parents, we recognize that you may feel overwhelmed by life right now, and distance learning may feel that way too. However, we want to encourage you that God is Who He says He is - our Provider, our Wisdom, and our Help. He has promised never to leave you or forsake you. He has done miracle after miracle in the past, and He is still the same miracle working God today. Trust Him in this distance learning process and in every other challenge you are facing. Invite Him in and ask Him to be in charge.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is the format of online learning?Students will have a rich educational experience including a mixture of reading hardcover and e-books, weekly zoom extra-help sessions, video instruction, and supplemental interactive websites. Google Classroom will be utilized by students to receive instructional content, turn in assignments, and track curriculum progress. Assessments will look similar to in-person instruction, and will require occasional visits to campus for monitored testing (midterms and finals).

What is the schedule of online learning?
Students are expected to check in daily to work on assignments, comment on message boards, turn in work, or take assessments. Attendance will be taken daily for online students.

Can my student receive High School credit for their classes?
Yes, based on the 2020-2021 state guidelines, High School students will receive full credit for their transcripts provided they pass the class.

Can my student participate in school activities including field trips and school events?
As physical space allows due to Covid-19 restrictions. Online students will be subject to the same Covid-19 quarantine and isolation requirements as in-person students (including travel to restricted areas, symptom, and temperature checks).

Can students participate in Sports if enrolled in online learning?
At this time, No, due to normal Section 11 rules, students must attend school at least ½ day to participate in sports. However, the athletic department is seeing if these rules will be relaxed.

Can students participate in clubs or specials?
As physical space allows due to Covid-19 restrictions. Online students will be subject to the same Covid-19 quarantine and isolation requirements as in-person students (including travel to restricted areas, symptom, and temperature checks). In-person seats will be prioritized for in-person students.

What if my child needs extra help on their work?
First, reach out to your child’s teacher explaining their difficulties and ask for support. If further help is needed, contact the principal at tberner@scsemail.org to see what additional resources can be provided.

What is the cost of online learning for the 2020-2021 school year?
90% of normal tuition. Through the blessing of SGT, our facility costs are nearly completely covered by our church family. This incredible blessing allows SCS to offer a high-quality Christian Education at a lower tuition, but also limits any inherent cost-savings from operating remotely from which a typical business might naturally benefit.
